White Mountains 3 Day Itinerary

Recently we got the opportunity to stay at the Omni Mount Washington Hotel and Resort. This place had been on my New England Hotels Bucket list for a while. Nestled in the White Mountains, this stunning hotel is one of the original New Hampshire Grand Hotels, built in 1902. The hotel has done an amazing job maintaining the heritage and history of the building and nodding to its New England location. If you are planning a trip to the White Mountains use this great 3 day itinerary to get the most out of your trip!

New England Fall Foliage

Day 1: Arrival and Check In

If you’re driving from Boston the Omni Mount Washington is about a two and a half hours drive. Don’t worry though, the drive is stunning no matter what time of year you do it! I am always awe struck driving through Franconia Notch. Leave yourself plenty of time to stop at one of the many pull offs, go for a walk to stretch your legs or to take pictures!

The Omni Mount Washington has taken several steps to limit contact. They are not currently offering valet, so drop off your bags and then park in one of their convenient lots. During checkin you will be asked to answer a COVID19 questionnaire verifying that no one in your party is sick, has been in contact with someone who is sick. You must have a New England state driver’s license or verify that you have been quarantine in New England for 14 days before checking in. Masks are required throughout the hotel, but you’re allowed to remove masks when sitting to eat or drink.

Take sometime to settle into your room and then head out to explore the hotel! Grab cocktail at the Rosebrook Bar and enjoy out on the veranda. The Omni Mount Washington veranda is seriously iconic, it is the longest veranda in all of New England! A quick 6 laps around is a mile.

Watch the sunset over the presidential mountain range then go get ready for dinner. For your first night get dressed up and eat in the newly renovated Main Dinning room. Modern and sleek, the dinning room still maintains the century old elegance that the Omni Mount Washington is known for. Reservations are required and they are currently operating on a limited menu due to covid, but they still had some fantastic dishes! And make sure you save room for dessert. I had a tough time choosing between the maple creme brûlée and the chocolate lava cake.

After dinner head up to your room to relax and get ready for an exciting day of activities!

Day 2: Explore the White Mountains

If you’re an early riser get up early and have breakfast in the Main dinning room (7am-9am) or sleep in and grab coffee and a muffin from Morsels Cafe (open until noon most days.)

Spend the day exploring the nearby trails. There is a hike for people at every level, from really challenging to leisurely walks. For an easy to moderate hike check out Elephant Head, Ripley Falls, and straight from the hotel you can take the B&M trail and walk to the Upper Falls. The White Mountains are truly breath taking during the Fall, be sure to keep an eye out for wildlife!

New England Fall Foliage, Weekend Getaway

Once you get back from your hike take some time to relax and unwind before heading across the street to Bretton Woods. Take the gondola up to the summit where you will find the brand new Rosebrook Lodge! The restaurant just opened a couple weeks ago, it offers a more upscale sit down restaurant on the first floor and a more casual cafeteria style restaurant on the second floor. No matter where you sit the floor to ceiling windows offer some of the best views in New England! The space is even available for event rentals. Have dinner, take in the views, and then take the gondola back down, the views alone worth the ride.

Day 3: Relaxation at the Omni Mount Washington

Start your day at the Bretton Woods Stables, we booked a group trail ride. The group rides are great way to see a little bit more of the property and spend more time soaking up the fresh mountain air. The guides are all excellent and even if you’ve never been horseback riding before you will feel completely comfortable on the ride! It’s such a peaceful way to start the day. If you’re feeling a little sore after your hike on day 2, book yourself a massage at The Spa! Known for their incredible skincare treatments, salon services and body treatments, this is a must do. The Spa is currently offering limited services and adhering to all New Hampshire State covid guidelines. I got a Swedish massage, while face down on the table I was not required to wear a mask but once I flipped over I had to put it back on. Even if you’re staying at the hotel you will be asked to fill out an additional COVID19 questionnaire and waiver.

Relax on the veranda for the afternoon then grab dinner at Stickney’s pub. Like the Main Dinning room they are running on a slightly limited menu due to covid but everything we had was incredible! Stickney’s also has a great cocktail menu that is a must try. When you’re done eating stroll down to the fire pit to make s’mores! They offer s’mores kits for sale at Morsels Cafe. I can think of no better way to end your weekend getaway to the Omni Mount Washington. New England Getaway to the Omni Mount Washington

Departure:

Check out is at 11am, so you can wake up early and grab breakfast or grab something once you’re on the road. Enjoy the ride home, there is so much to see throughout the White Mountains. Definitely leave time to stop in Franconia Notch if you didn’t on the way up.

We had such a fantastic time during our stay at the Omni Mount Washington.  I was really impressed with all the precautions they were taking to keep everyone safe and healthy. There is so much to do right on site, they really offer everything you could need. You can make your trip whatever you want it to be! Spend all your time outside, the resort also has a fantastic golf course and mountain bikes you can use. Or spend all your time inside at the spa, the pool, or relaxing on the veranda. It is truly a special property so make sure you add it to your Fall bucket list! Want more New England Travel ideas? Check out my post on Woodstock VT.
