Its cold. It’s really fucking cold. And I’m a little cranky about all the snow. We’ve reached March and the magic of winter in the north east has long since faded. At thing point we are all looking ahead to the end of winter and the start of “spring” in New England. But unfortunately as all long time New Englanders know, spring really only shows up for a day or two each year. Really we have winter and then winter 2.0. If you’re experiencing winter fatigue but aren’t able to travel to a warm, tropical destination keep reading. These are my top 4 favorite places to go in New England during the long winter months. If there is one thing quaint, charming New England towns are good at its recapturing the magic of winter!
Stowe, Vermont
I wrote a Stowe guide a few years ago and every January since without fail it skyrockets to my top performing blog post. With reason! Stowe is a fantastic winter getaway for ski enthusiasts and après ski enthusiasts alike. There are tons of lodging options from ski in ski out on mountain to cozy boutique hotels right in the middle of town. Be sure to read my full guide to Stowe, Vermont.
Woodstock, Vermont
Woodstock has been a long time favorite of mine. Really I am down to go at anytime of year, but it has a great mountain for skiing and plenty to do for non-skiers. The Woodstock Inn makes a romantic couples destination and there are tons of great dining options in town. The Woodstock Inn even has a shuttle to Suicide 6 for those interested in skiing. Find a full itinerary for Woodstock, Vermont here.
Watch Hill, Rhode Island
This coastal town comes alive in the summer, even TSwift has a house here! But in the winter it is the perfect place to escape and recharge. The best part? Winter is Watch Hill’s “shoulder season” so hotels are significantly less pricey than they are in the summer. My number one will always be the Ocean House. They truly take service and excellence to the next level. They offer tons of year round activities and dining experiences. The stand out in the winter has to be the Fondue Express, a private, outdoor dining experience. Don’t worry, they’re not going to let you freeze. You and your guests will be seated in a refurbished ski gondola and will have plenty of heated blankets to keep you warm.
Bretton Woods, New Hampshire
Skiing at Bretton Woods is a New England right of passage. The beautiful Omni Mount Washington Hotel is a New England icon, in addition to the incredible views and amazing amenities, you are right across the street from Bretton Woods ski area. There is tons to do on the property and lots of great dining options. This is a great location for a family getaway or a romantic couples weekend.
And there you have it the 4 best New England destinations to visit this winter. Whether you enjoy getting outside or you are looking for a cozy retreat to rest and recharge at. What are your favorite winter New England destinations? Let me know if you’re planning a winter getaway!
