Guide to Visiting PTown: Where to Stay and Eat

A New England summer is not complete without a trip to Ptown. Located at the very tip of the Cape you have a it is the perfect day trip, or weekend getaway. There are tons of fun places to stay, eat, and drink. In this guide you will find everything you need to plan your next trip to Ptown.Planning a trip to Ptown

How to Get There:

Firstly, you have 3 choices for getting to PTown: drive, fly, or take the ferry. Driving all the way from Boston can be quite a hike, but if you’re going for an extended period of time and want to visit other  spots on the Cape it might be worth having your car.

Flying may seem silly for someplace so close, but Cape Air sometimes has fantastic deals. Plus you’ll get there in just about 30 minutes. Flying is a great option if you’re just going for a weekend and want to get the most out of your time.

Lastly, the route I normally go, is to take the ferry out of Boston. It is about a 90 minute journey, and assuming the water isn’t too choppy, a pretty comfortable journey at that. Boston Harbor City Cruises has ferries pretty much every day, be sure to book in advanced. Once you decide how to get there you can start planning what you’ll do on your next trip to PTown.

Where to Stay:

There are so many great places to stay in Ptown, you really can’t go wrong. Between hotels, AirBnBs, and guest houses you have tons of choices for your next trip. Here are a few of my favorites places to stay in PTown.

AWOL

Located about a mile from the main strip on commercial street this recently renovated hotel is super cute! In addition to water views, a pool, 3 fire pits, and free breakfast. They even have bikes available for guest. We recently stayed here and it was wonderful, I will certainly be back!

Where to stay in Ptown

The Red Inn

This adorable Inn has 3 guest rooms, 3 suites, and 2 luxurious private residences available. This Inn truly captures the New England charm, and they have fantastic dining options right on site.

Harbor Hotel Provincetown

This hotel has everything you could be looking for: beach front, pool, dining options on site, and it’s even pet friendly!

What to Do:

Art’s Dune Tour

I have been coming to the Cape my entire life and I had never done a dune tour until this year. We went out with Art’s Dune Tour and it was incredible! Not only is riding over the dunes fun but the team will give you a full history of the area, from it being declared part of the Cape Cod National Seashore to the history behind the artist shacks, many of which still stand today.Art's Dune Tours

Pilgrim Monument

Plymouth may be where the Pilgrims settled but they first landed in Ptown. You can purchase tickets to walk up the monument and to visit the museum.

Whale Watching

Being on the tip of the Cape means it is very likely you might spot a whale from the beach, but you can also get up close on a whale watch! Be sure to plan ahead, this is one of the most popular activities in Ptown. Whale watches are typically 2-3 hours and be sure to pack a jacket, it can get windy out on the open water!

Stroll Commercial Street

There is a reason I rarely ever bring a car to Ptown, pretty much everything you need is within walking distance. The main strip in Ptown is Commercial Street. This is where the majority of restaurants and shops are located. Stroll up and down popping in and out of shops and grab a bite to eat!

Where to Eat:

Speaking of where to eat, here are a few must visit spots you have to check out on your next trip to PTown.

Canteen

I firmly believe that The Canteen has one of the best lobster rolls I have ever have, get a frose and sit out back with your toes in the sand. You will order inside, at the counter, and then head behind the restaurant to their patio area, half of which is directly on the beach. They also have a bar out back if you want to stay and have a couple of drinks and enjoy the afternoon.Frose at The Canteen

Tin Pan Alley

This cute little spot is right on Commercial Street, they have indoor seating and a small patio out back. This is a great spot for dinner, they have lots of seasonal seafood. I highly recommend getting the Taste of Cape Cod. In one entree you get half a lobster roll, a cup of clam chowder, and a small serving of fish and chips! Its honestly everything you could want in one.

The Lobster Pot

A trip to PTown is not complete without this classic! If you’re looking for the ultimate seafood experience you have to stop by The Lobster Pot.

The Club

If you want a fun night out, have dinner at The Club on Wednesday nights. They have live entertainment every Wednesday 6-9PM. Their menu is filled with seafood classics however, they also plenty of trendier options like quinoa fritters, honey dipped fried chicken, and more!

Ptown is one of my favorite locations for a quick day trip, or a weekend getaway. You can fit a lot in in just a short trip so don’t stress if you only have a night or two. Want more New England travel? Read my guide to the Best Road Trips in New England.
