First Day of Summer

We suffer all winter long in the cold and snow and today is the day that makes it all worth it, the first day of summer! Also dubbed National Wear Lilly day by fellow preppies. I was so excited to break out one of my favorite Lilly dress have a glass of rose and enjoy the beautiful weather we have been having this week.IMG_0861

In New England it really is like a light switch. One day you are cold and miserable, you forget your Hunter boots at home and end up stepping in a puddle ruining your favorite flats. And then the next day it is so gorgeous you dip out of work a little early to sit on your roof deck and soak up some vitamin D. I am probably in the minority in saying that summer is not my favorite season. I love fall, maybe its because that’s when my birthday is or because of all the pretty leaves, apple pie, hard cider, the list goes on. But summer is special, summer is full of memories.

When I was little I went to summer camp every year. The camp was right on the lake with adorable cabins tucked along the shore. I loved staying up late talking with the other girls in my cabin, swimming in the lake, running around playing games on the rec-field. There were even stable where I learned to horseback ride. I have some amazing memories of camp and every summer I feel a little nostalgic for those times. We didn’t have cellphone, we weren’t concerned about the wifi password, there wasn’t a TV or a laptop taking up our attention. Today my cellphone is basically glued to me hand and I can’t imagine going a month without my laptop.

The responsibilities we face as adults sometimes drown out what is really important. Just being in a moment. This summer try to unplug for a day and enjoy time with your family and friends. Go to the beach and just bring a book. Try something new and exciting. Take sometime this summer to remember what is was like to be a kid. (And do it in a bright Lilly print obviously!)
