It has pockets!

Every girl needs a perfect summer dress! This year vineyard vines nailed it with this adorable striped dress. I am in love with everything about it, the vibrant stripes, the bow on the back, but most of all it has pockets! As I’m sure many of you know I get very excited when a dress and or skirt has pockets. This dress can be dressed up or dressed down. It is professional enough to wear to the office but still fun enough to wear out. With the right accessorize and shoes you could even rock it at a wedding! Vineyard Vines always runs a little big in my opinion, so if you’re between sizes I would size down, I definitely had a little extra room in this one.

Vineyard Vines had a great collection of dresses this season but this one is definitely my favorite! I styled it with Jack Rogers and put my hair up so everyone could see the adorable bow on the back. The bow makes this dress so fun but it is still classy enough that anyone can wear it.

I hope everyone has a wonderful 4th of July! I will be hanging by the pool with family and friends at my aunt’s annual cookout. I love going to my aunt’s every year it is one of the traditions I look forward to most every year. What do you do for the 4th? Let me know in the comments below!

Thank you vineyard vines for this adorable dress, as always all opinions are my own.

Sailing Away in Summer

Happy First weekend of Summer! Memorial has come and gone so unofficially summer started last month, but today is the Summer Solstice. I am so happy to be partnering with vineyard vines to feature their summer line on my blog this summer. When I got the summer catalog in the mail I was instantly drawn to this sailboat intarsia sweater. It is the perfect sweater to toss on for a day by the water when its a little breezy or to put on after the sun goes down and it gets a little chilly. AC8CED67-97A4-4630-98F1-B7E86A58FE297A36883E-C4D3-4677-989D-7001CFAA742Ffullsizeoutput_2408BD0658DA-0931-4A5F-945C-5585C21B4FF97D03B3F2-EDD9-436C-B4D6-3866333BB635fullsizeoutput_2407

I love spending time by the ocean every summer. My family has been going down the Cape my entire life. Growing up in New England was amazing because we had so many different options. Vineyard Vines has always been one of my favorite brands because it captures the essence of New England perfectly. The winters here may be horrible but I firmly believe the summers make it worth it. Can’t wait to go to Nantucket, the Cape, and Maine this summer!

Anchored into Summer

As many of you know I graduated college this year, and recently started a new job. I love it but it keeps me super busy, even on the weekends. I am definitely looking forward to spending time down the Cape with my family and up in Maine with Mike.

That is what I love about New England, we really have everything right here within driving distance. We can drive to the beach, the mountains, lakes, and the woods. I grew up going down the Cape and am definitely a beach person! When I was seven my family went on a seriously disastrous camping trip to Maine, which pretty much turned me off of Maine until I started dating Mike. The past four years I have loved going up to Maine with him, its nice to get away just the two of us. There is no wifi, and only 4 TV channels, so its very easy to unplug and relax for a weekend.

I am looking forward to traveling a lot this summer and now that the weather is finally starting to feel like summer there are plenty of beach days in my future! This dress is from vineyard vines, I think I got it in 2014 maybe? I love the nautical anchor details and the rope belt! It is the perfect summer dress, the collar keeps it professional enough to wear to the office but it’s still fun enough for a night out! I am always looking for nautical pieces to add to my wardrobe and I go back to them every summer. I talk about quality over quantity a lot. This dress is four years old and is still in great condition! Yes it cost $100+ initially but I am still wearing it four years later! You can spend $15 on a dress at Primark but it will be ruined after one or two wears and you will be going right back to the store to spend another $15 dollars and another and another. There are so many quality brands out there, building a wardrobe doesn’t happen over night and investing in quality pieces is the best way to build a long term wardrobe.

Tips for visiting Wicked Tulips

If you have been on social media at all in the past couple weeks I am sure you have seen people posting about Wicked Tulips! It is a gorgeous tulip farm in Johnston Rhode Island. It is gorgeous and well worth the drive!! It is the Colby Farm of spring! The season ended this week which means if you didn’t make it it’s time to start planning for next year! Here are a few tips to make your trip as enjoyable as possible!

1. You need a ticket

In order to get in you need a ticket, your ticket comes with 10 tulips along with your entrance. They do sell out, even on weekdays, so be sure to get your ticket ahead of time. Join the Wicked Tulips email list so you can get alerts on ticket sales. They did a pre-sale this year before the fields opened.

2. Go early

This is a two for one tip. Go early in the season and go early in the day! I unfortunately had a final the day we went so we couldn’t get down there until mid afternoon. But I would try to get there right when they open, there are tons of people. Some are taking photos, some have kinds and strollers with them, and tons are just enjoying the tulips! The earlier in the day you get there the less people. Try and go in the first week! The field only lasts for about 3 weeks and is very dependent on weather so get in that email list and get tickets for one of the first two weekends!

3. Start in the show garden

Wicked Tulips planned really well, they had a show garden and a picking garden. Start in the show garden all the flowers are labeled so you can know exactly what type of tulip it is. Take a look at all the different varieties and then head over to the picking field knowing exactly what you want!

4. Respect

Everyone is there to have fun, be patient. That being said if you are there to take photos don’t be too extra. Respect the people around you who are just there to enjoy the beautiful fields of tulips. Respect that Wicked Tulips is a family owned farm. They sell their tulips so if you pick one you’re buying it do not pick and then discard, I saw so my tulips just left on the ground after being picked! And should be common sense but do not walk through the tulip beds, stay on the paths.

5. Bring water

I had a fairly long drive home and my tulips got a little droopy and wilted on the ride. Bring some water so you can immediately put your tulips in them. If you forget a cup wet some paper towels or napkins and wrap them around the stems!

I had so much fun at Wicked Tulips! I can’t wait to go back next year. I went with my mom and aunt Mary and we had a blast! So sad the season is over but that means summer is right around the corner! Whats your favorite spring/summer place to visit? Any tips?
