A Tweed blazer is a wardrobe staple. Last year I picked up this perfect school-boy tweed blazer from J.Crew. I love J.Crew for wardrobe staples, if you need a button down, a classic blazer, a pair of slacks J.Crew is the place to go. I love having the basics always ready to go in my closet. It makes getting dressed everyday so simple. By sticking to the staples I have been able to reign in the size of my closet (which if you didn’t know Beacon Hill closets are notoriously small).
I have also diminished the amount of textile waste I create every year. Instead of buying a new fall wardrobe every year I keep returning to the same items. This is the third fall I have had this blazer and I love it just as much now as I did 3 years ago when I bought it. Investing in quality items that will last season after season is the easiest way to create a more sustainable wardrobe. J.Crew is pricey, but they have fantastic end of season sales, use those sales as an opportunity to stock a few wardrobe staples for next year.
J.Crew is my favorite go-to place for wardrobe staples but some other great places are Ann Taylor, Brooks Brothers (I prefer their red fleece line), and Ralph Lauren Polo. Yes these brands are more expensive but the items you buy will last year after year. This isn’t dropping 100 dollars on a sweater you are going to have to replace every winter!
Under my blazer I am wearing a Ralph Lauren classic white button down, I am wearing a vineyard vines skirt from last fall, my black Nordstrom loafers that I have had for 3 years and, my Madewell sunglasses. Madewell is another great brand to shop for basics they also have an amazing denim recycling program.
