Black Friday Deals

I am always excited to shop my favorite brands on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. I love splurging on a few holiday pieces I have been eyeing.

1) Vineyard Vines 25% off + Free Shipping Splurge on a cashmere sweater! I am obsessed with this one with the tartan cuffs. If you’ve been eyeing any of the VV pjs I would definitely grab them this weekend. They sell out of some sizes by early December, so don’t wait!

2) J.Crew 40% off

In my opinion J.Crew is always the best deal. They’re doing 40% off with the code TOGETHER. It’s a great chance to stock up on some classics, like this tartan skirt, that you can wear year after year.

3) Duffield Lane 30% off I am in love with all the tweed pieces Duffield Lane did this season. This tweed vest is perfect way to add a little sparkle to your outfits this holiday season. I’m eyeing this Cheers Sweater this weekend.

4) Painted Brick Studio 15% off

Recently I worked with Painted Brick Studio to spruce up my bedroom. It is such a fun idea to either gift yourself or someone special in your life. Pick a room, a style, and answer a few short questions about your personal preferences and Painted Brick Studio will send you a gift box full of adorable decor. Now through December 2nd use the code: MERRY15 for 15% off!

5) Ralph Lauren 40% off on orders of $125+

I think it’s hard to go into Ralph Lauren and not spend at least $125. Ralph Lauren is normally my biggest splurge, I love all the classic sweaters!

I’m a sit at home and shop online type. I hate the mall crowds and you could not pay me to go to the outlets on Black Friday. But if you’re brave enough more power to you! In addition to the above deals be sure to check out your local shops and boutiques, Beacon Hill has so many cute shops I will be checking out the deals may not be as big or flashy but you know exactly where and who your money is going to. Don’t let the deal shopping make you crazy, remember thanksgiving is about being grateful for what you already have. I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday, I’ll be spending the day with my family eating lots of mashed potatoes.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Tweed in Autumn

A Tweed blazer is a wardrobe staple. Last year I picked up this perfect school-boy tweed blazer from J.Crew. I love J.Crew for wardrobe staples, if you need a button down, a classic blazer, a pair of slacks J.Crew is the place to go. I love having the basics always ready to go in my closet. It makes getting dressed everyday so simple. By sticking to the staples I have been able to reign in the size of my closet (which if you didn’t know Beacon Hill closets are notoriously small).

I have also diminished the amount of textile waste I create every year. Instead of buying a new fall wardrobe every year I keep returning to the same items. This is the third fall I have had this blazer and I love it just as much now as I did 3 years ago when I bought it. Investing in quality items that will last season after season is the easiest way to create a more sustainable wardrobe. J.Crew is pricey, but they have fantastic end of season sales, use those sales as an opportunity to stock a few wardrobe staples for next year.

J.Crew is my favorite go-to place for wardrobe staples but some other great places are Ann Taylor, Brooks Brothers (I prefer their red fleece line), and Ralph Lauren Polo. Yes these brands are more expensive but the items you buy will last year after year. This isn’t dropping 100 dollars on a sweater you are going to have to replace every winter!

Under my blazer I am wearing a Ralph Lauren classic white button down, I am wearing a vineyard vines skirt from last fall, my black Nordstrom loafers that I have had for 3 years and, my Madewell sunglasses. Madewell is another great brand to shop for basics they also have an amazing denim recycling program.

What is your favorite brand to shop for high-quality wardrobe staples?

Beach Please

So it’s not quiet beach weather yet. But I went to visit my friend Jen in Quincy and we went for a walk on the beach and I wasn’t freezing! So I’m going to count that as a win.

I rarely go south of Boston, this was the first time I ever went to the beach in Quincy! I’ll stick to my north shore beaches or the cape this summer but it was cool to see the cityscape over the water.

I love this outfit from J.Crew Factory. They have been doing a ton of great sales lately I got this pineapple sweater for FREE! It occurred to me while we were walking along that I’ve had these Sperry’s since I was a freshmen in high school, if you’re looking for quality boat shoes I would recommend Sperry.

This is my favorite tote, I got it from L.L. Bean two years ago. They unfortunately discontinued the lobster pattern but a large boat and tote is perfect for the beach! Can’t wait for a real beach day, are you more of a beach person or a lake person?

Remember November

I feel like November is always a good time to look back on the year and reflect. My birthday is November 16th so I’m one year older this month, it is also right before we all get caught up in the craziness of the holidays. This year November is going to be a busy month for me but I’m very excited.

I’ve been feeling a little stressed about work and school lately. There is just so much going on and I’m really looking forward to taking sometime for myself this month. I’ll be doing some traveling and celebrating my birthday, what does everyone else do to relax?

While October often gets credit as “peak foliage” month this year the weather has been very warm so the leaves in Boston and southern New England are peaking right now. I love strolling through the public gardens on the last few warm days enjoying the leaves as they change.

Happy November!

Snow Day Snow Play

One of the best parts about living in the city verse suburbs is NO SHOVELING!! When you wake up in the morning the freshly fallen snow holds only possibilities not responsibilities. I don’t own a car (T and Uber all the way) so I don’t need to worry about cleaning off a car saving a spot shoving the driveway. It means that after a snowstorm like we had yesterday I get to go explore our beautiful city all covered in white. Nothing is really more picturesque than the Public Gardens covered in a fresh blanket of snow. I tossed on my Bean boots, my favorite Northface hat and my new J.Crew coat and headed out to play in the snow.

Something about the snow just makes me feel like a kid again. You can run, and play and everyone else is doing the same regardless of age. I’m sure by February I will be completely over the snow and be whining about how bad I wish it was summer but it this moment let’s just enjoy winter. If it is going to be this cold out we might as well have a beautiful play ground!
