Here Comes the Sun

This week Boston got a little taste of spring. Yeah we also got snow but let’s focus on those two 70 degree days! I headed down to the water front with my friend Jenn and had lunch on the patio at Joe’s. Because yes we live in a world where some restaurants opened their patios in February. It was especially awesome leaving the house without a jacket! I wore this awesome top from Diane Gillman, it is a simple navy T-shirt but has really cute seersucker bell sleeves!

I love strolling along the waterfront in the North End. When I was little my dad’s office was in the same area overlooking the water. On the weekends he would bring us into the office with him, I loved sitting in the window looking out on all the boats! It’s still a little early and there aren’t many boats out there yet but summer is coming!

100th Post

Wow, this is my 100th post on Katie From Boston. I started this blog as a way to express myself, I was feeling lost like I was floating aimlessly from day to day. I needed a creative outlet.

Hence the birth of this blog. It is not a particularly exciting or unique story, I know tons of bloggers who started because they needed a creative outlet. But today this blog is much more than a creative outlet to me. It has become a very important part of my life, the opportunities I have had, the friends I have made through blogging! The past 9 months, when I really threw myself into blogging, have been incredible. I promise to keep at it and to keep bringing you the best possible content and to always share my honest opinion.

So you tell me, what content do you want to see for posts 101-200? More travel? More food? Less of anything? What was your favorite post and what are you dying to know? Leaving me your questions, suggestions, comments, and criticisms in the comment section below.

And thank you for tagging along on this journey with me!

Birthday and Wine

Every year for my birthday me and my best friend Megan pick a winery and go do a tasting. Her birthday is November 2nd and mine is the 16th so we always get together on Veterans Day weekend to celebrate together.

This year we visited Mill River Winery in Rowley, MA and then we grabbed lunch and strolled around downtown Newburyport. Mill River was super small but they delivered on the charm. The bar tender was super knowledgeable about the wines. My favorite was the Plum Island Red!

After our tasting we drove the ten minutes to Newburyport. It was a little chilly but the sun was shinning. I had on my Lands End tartan puffer vest. Just like my other Lands End vest the pockets are fleece lined which is perfect for keeping my hands warm! I counted the other day and it turns out I have 6 vests! And that’s after loosing my favorite Vineyard Vines vest this summer when I moved. But I’m a firm believer that you can never have enough vests! Where is your favorite place to get vests from? Newburyport is super charming. I know New England is full of charming seaside towns but I’ve always really liked Newburyport!

Lillying around Newport

I love summer for the sole reason that I get to wear all the cute Lilly Pulitzer pieces I have. Sometimes wearing Lilly in Boston in the middle of winter just doesn’t make sense. I love breaking out my brightest outfits during the summer because come Fall they get tossed in the back of my closet and I don’t see them again until Memorial Day.

Last weekend I went to Newport with one of my good friends Elyssa. We decided to go for the Newport Flower show hosted by the Newport Preservation Society at the Rosecliff mansion. Rosecliff is so beautiful, fun fact the old Great Gatsby movie featured Rosecliff in some of their scenes! We started the day with brunch and then strolled around downtown Newport for a little while. Thames Street is so great for shopping and people watching! We stopped at the Smoke House for some mudslides before heading over to the Flower Show. (BTW please excuse the ever present hair elastic on my wrist in all of the photos 🙄)

The Flower Show was fabulous! There were tons of vendors sent up and you can’t beat the view! We strolled through the ball room taking it all in.0C0921B5-30A4-42A4-9BBC-C214BD221BE000433523-C1E5-43AE-BF85-DE042F91868114B46B8F-0E7D-4EBB-8A9A-34E62CE811DBIMG_1319608E020F-E8A8-453F-A1EB-0EF78F2AA21ADA7ADEDB-8E4A-42E8-96F1-0E9BBE2BFCC3F15C2F92-F414-49DC-B80A-AED8BC95F1EB5506D1DF-B23E-4E28-AA64-71AA576D83E1

After the Flower Show we headed over to Newport Vineyards to do a wine tasting. I love doing wine tastings, and Newport Vineyards is one of my favorite wineries in New England! We had a great bartender Brenden who was so helpful and fun. One of my favorite wines there is the Great White, it is the perfect crisp white wine for a summer day. It was Elyssa’s first time there and she loved the Dry Rose!5784C6F8-0C04-4B6C-9779-30CB564EAE4E137201D6-CBE0-46F7-B8DA-979A7578836E46F01980-D618-4BE0-B98B-A803B14CED91

To end the day we headed over to my favorite spot in Newport, Castle Hill Inn. It is an absolutely stunning property and the view over the water can’t be beat. They have a gorgeous lawn with adirondack chairs that you can hang out in and have a cocktail. We grabbed dinner out on the patio. The food is delicious, but it wad the sunset that stole the show! We go there about an hour before sunset and it was so breathtaking to watch while we enjoyed a delicious dinner. The bartenders here know what they’re doing and make some of the best cocktails in Newport! I got a dark and stormy which didn’t disappoint.  330EAC94-3476-413A-9A7A-5198E2CD4BA97C6CC300-3F88-42BA-8061-18476198E1C557DFBF4F-69EA-409F-9FF8-93BD31903332B14080E3-25E2-4DDE-BF29-F6580705554FIMG_1277

It was a perfect day in Newport. Its just a short drive from Boston but when I do make the trip down I like to fit as much as possible into the trip! Newport has so much to offer, I can’t wait to go back.

These Boots are Made for Walkin’

So my feet are currently covered in Band-Aids. I love Autumn, I love boot season and sweat weather. But the end of summer means that our feet are no longer free in flip flops, they get pushed into our adorable new boots. And as any girl knows there is a breaking in period. I have been breaking in a new pair of booties and today my feet hurt so bad I wanted to get an uber to take me the 10 minute walk home. We all sacrifice for fashion, and once they are broken in we can wear our boots all day every day till its time to put the sandals back on. So here are my top boots of the season I’ve already asked for one of these pairs for my birthday!
