Brunch at Five Horses Tavern

Some people do yoga, meditate, and drink healthy smoothies as part of their self care routine. Me? I go to brunch! Last weekend I checked out Five Horses Tavern in Davis square with my friend, and one of my favorite food bloggers Joey of the_Roamingfoodie. The food was all amazing but I have to say my favorite part was the mimosa flight, why have one when you can have four? The apple cider mimosa will definitely be recreated at home!

For my main dish I had the Huevos Rancheros. I loved them! The were just spicy enough without it overwhelming the eggs. I also got an order of the Thyme Biscuit with honey butter, let’s just say honey butter is the only way to go! We also tried the Southern Comfort and the Fried Chicken and Waffles. Five Horses Tavern manages to combine brunch with comfort food, I can’t wait to go back! Be sure to check them out if you’re looking for brunch plans this weekend, make sure you make a reservation because they do get really busy on the weekends.

In addition to amazing food we had amazing service! Thank you so much to Five Horses Tavern for hosting us, as always all opinions are my own.

Portland Weekend Guide

Just a couple hours from Boston Portland Maine is the perfect weekend getaway. Mike and I headed up to Portland a couple weekends ago to celebrate a friend’s wedding. I love Portland, it has an amazing food scene and is so pretty in the fall! Our first day we strolled around Old Port and grabbed lunch at Central Provisions. We grabbed some seats at the bar, Central Provisions has a open kitchen, sitting at the bar allowed us to watch all the action. I got the corn bread and lobster fritters they were so good! CP uses fresh farm to table ingredients in a great atmosphere. Old port is so fun to stroll around, cobble stone streets, cute shops, and some amazing art galleries!

The wedding took place at the gorgeous Portland Audubon, the leaves were all starting to change and the weather was perfect. We had such a great time, the food at the wedding was incredible! We danced all night.

Before heading home the next day we stopped at Highroller Lobster and got something that had been on my food bucket list, the Lobster Cheese Crisp Taco! The taco shell is made from cheese and its filled with lobster, lettuce, avocado, and your choice of sauce. I got the jalapeno mayo. It was so good! If you like lobster rolls you should definitely check out Highroller, they have tons of fun twists on a traditional lobster roll! B59E82D6-4C5C-4AEC-9EE9-4890D19719967AA7DDC8-6B03-485D-8F5B-1E04FA4A738A

There are tons of fun things to do in Portland. Check out one of the many micro-brewies, like Sebago Brewing Co, Shipyard Brewing, and Island Dog Brewing. You can take a harbor cruise, the mailboat run is really fun!

If you’re up for a little drive you can check out the Portland Headlight. It is so beautiful and a great way to end the weekend. Fall is the perfect time for a New England weekend getaway!

Brunching at Double Chin

If you’re not familiar with Double Chin you’re missing out! Right in Chinatown Double Chin is the hottest Asian Fusion spot in the entire city. In addition to the delicious food, Double Chin’s owner Gloria Chin is the sweetest and a total #girlboss! Her and her sister Emily started Double Chin and the bakery next door Bao Bao Bakery. I was thrilled to visit Double Chin last weekend to meet Gloria and have their famous Boozy Brunch.

Let’s be honest, because of Boston’s stupid puritanical liquor laws, sometimes Boston brunch can be a little bit of a let down. In NYC, DC, or Chicago you have bottomless brunch, $10 bottomless mimosas, brunch happy hours! But I was seriously impressed by Double Chin’s Brunch menu. I started with the unicorn mimosa, think a regular mimosa on crack. it had ice cream and rock candy and was pure deliciousness! Its a lot of sugar so if you’re drink one I recommend going with a savory brunch dish opposed to a sweet one. Me and my friend Anastasia both went savory she had the Skillet Char Siu Pork Belly Hash, and I had the Crab Me Benny One More Time (if you don’t get the Britney Spears reference our friendship is over).

Regardless of what you get to eat you need to get a side of the hash! It was amazing even after I was way to full I kept eating that hash! If you like soft shell crab you will love the Crab Me Benny. Eggs Benedict and soft shell crab? It was amazing! This was my first time having Asian Fusion brunch and I was so impressed. I actually had a hard time deciding what I wanted to order, there were so many new options I had never tried before. I definitely get in a brunch rut and order my go-to dishes time and time again. Double Chin got me out of my comfort zone and served me the best brunch I’ve had in a while! We were way to full to have dessert but I will definitely be going back to try Double Chin’s epic desserts, recently they had a unicorn crepe cake on specials that blew up Instagram, they have so many other amazing desserts I am dying to try. They even mark the “insta-worthy” ones right on the menu for you!

Double Chin is in the cutest space, the location is really easy to get to. There is a fun porch swing (perfect for your insta), it is such a fun spot for a brunch with your girlfriends! Thank you so much Gloria for having us, if you are looking to make brunch plans this weekend I definitely recommend making a reservation. Asian Fusion brunch is the future, get on board! I love supporting women owned businesses, I am constantly impressed by their creativity, drive, and passion. If you’re a #girlboss tell me your story!

Double Chin provided complimentary brunch for me and Anastasia, as always all opinions are my own.

Lunch at The Fireplace Room

Last weekend I was invited to have lunch at The Fireplace Room located at the International Golf Club and Resort in Bolton. It was so much fun to spend the afternoon with some other local bloggers and the food was to die for! Thank you so much to Taste of Massachusetts for inviting me!

First of all I love the Bolton area, right down the street is Nashoba Valley Winery and all the gorgeous apple orchards I explore in the fall are right in the area. The Nashoba Valley region is so picturesque New England! When we arrived the bartender whipped up some cocktails. My favorite was the Blueberry Collins.

We moved on to wings and salads. The spicy harissa chicken wings were soooo good! We were served a variety of sandwiches, from a turkey club, a hot pastrami sandwich, and a portabello mushroom sandwich. Next came two pizzas, I loved the mushroom pizza with caramelized onions. Clearly I am on a mushroom kick right now!

Everything was so delicious but the best part was the fried ice cream we had at the end! I love trying new restaurants and getting to hang with fellow bloggers! So great seeing Joey of The Roaming Foodie and my good friend Jen of The Preppy Francophile.  It was great to meet The Italian Impasta, Three Hungry Chicks, Framingham Foodie, and  Natalie RW Photography. Thank you so much for bringing us all together Taste of Massachusetts! And big thank you to The Fireplace Room for hosting us, next time you are in the area be sure to stop in for an amazing lunch.

Brunch for Dinner- Del Frisco’s Grille

This week I had the opportunity to preview the new Del Frisco’s Grille opening on University Ave in Westwood. I love the Del Frisco’s Grille in Burlington and the Del Frisco’s Steak House in Boston so I was super excited to go try some of the latest menu items in Westwood. We got to hear about all the dishes from Chef Shawn Quinn, trust me the food was as delicious as it looks! We got to try a variety from the new brunch menu, brunch for dinner is fantastic and we should all start doing brunch on Friday nights!

We started with Nonna’s Cinnamon Rolls, these were fresh out of the oven and covered in Bourbon-espresso caramel sauce and toasted pecans. The caramel sauce is made in house and it is to die for! This was hands down my favorite dish of the night, I will literally be dreaming of the cinnamon rolls. 28C69127-2095-40E7-B5F2-3F82F470B279

Along with Nonna’s Cinnamon Rolls we had a smoked Salmon Tower and Bloody Marys! Next up was the Greens and Grains Bowl, filled with Quinoa, Charred Broccoli, Baby Spinach, Edamame, Beets, Avocado, Dried Cranberries, Roasted Almonds, a Poached cage-free egg, and sweet basil dressing. It sounds healthy and normally I would shy away from a salad-ish dish at brunch but this bowl was so flavorful, everything came together perfectly!

Served with the Greens and Grains Bowl was the Honeymoon in Paris cocktail. Definitely my favorite cocktail of the night! AE57D99A-4B4B-419D-A456-9017BBA04F34 Brunch for Dinner continued with Lemon Ricotta Pancakes and Crack Coffee! Chef Shawn was super excited about these pancakes and I immediately understood why, they are amazing! Served with fresh berries and blueberry-maple syrup. BFA3A86E-9330-46F5-A578-3CF3CB231292157FEC63-8CC3-4E73-8F67-97AB33A68791If you’re more of a savory brunch person than a sweet brunch person the next two dishes are right up your alley. Eggs in Purgatory, and Braised Shot Rib Hash. I tend to go for savoy dishes over sweet dishes at brunch, if I was having brunch here for the first time I would probably go for the Eggs in Purgatory. Poached cage-free eggs, roasted tomato pepper sauce, avocado flatbread, baby arugula, feta, and lemon vinaigrette. Whats not to love? The Short Rib Hash had two sunny side up eggs served on top with a Bordelaise sauce.66274CCF-B2C5-4D41-9C6C-CC5754BC382262B49828-E184-4544-A0BB-F08E1AAA2D15

To finish out we had Pan-Seared Scallops with baby zucchini and Filet Mignon with charred honey tahini broccoli. I am normally not a steak person but the Filet was cooked to perfection. And lets be real if you’re going to Del Frisco’s you should get a steak. The honey tahini broccoli was so good! We tried a Chianti and a Cabernet, I definitely preferred the Chianti.A80EF62A-0E83-4E30-8ECA-2162C3C994F58765DFF8-72B9-4194-976E-EDF6C582E08DB8429F62-EB34-45DE-996C-C9A89E040217

Thank you so much to the Del Frisco’s team for having me and my friend Jen in for dinner. I encourage everyone to go try the new Del Frisco’s Grille in Westwood, just a short walk from the commuter rail. Congratulations to Chef Shawn and the whole Del Frisco’s team, you all have put together an incredible menu.
