A night with Zuma

Something very exiting happened in Boston this week! Zuma, located at the new Four Seasons One Dalton, hosted they’re soft opening! There are Zuma restaurants all over the world and now Boston has joined the list. I went with my friend Elissa, be sure to check out her blog Style Wire, and we were treated to one of the best meals I’ve ever had.

We tried a bunch of different dishes. The menu has everything from sushi, Robata grilled vegetables and fish, as well as traditional entrees. To say things exceeded my expectations would be an understatement. From the moment we walked we were greeted by the beautiful atmosphere and friendly hosts. There was even a live DJ playing the bar area!

We were so happy to be seated at the bar overlooking the Robata grill. Getting to watch the chefs at work was a real treat! The service was exceptional from beginning to end, our server was helpful, all the runners were able to speak to each dish we tried, and the manager was wonderful!

This was without a doubt my favorite dish! Seared Boston Scallops with sea urchin and black truffle. They scallops were so fresh, and the sea urchin and truffle all came together delectably as it all melted in your mouth. I almost considered ordered a second dish of these at the end of our meal they were so phenomenal!

Another scallop dish, of you don’t enjoy seafood you might be at the wrong restaurant. Zuma has plenty of other dishes to offer, but you are seriously missing out! These were the Grilled Scallops with pickled plum, shiso, and mentaiko. Behind the scallops is the Soft Shell Crab served with a wasabi mayonnaise, a classic and it was as delicious as expected! It was lightly fried but didn’t feel heavy at all.

If you love sushi you will love this Seared Tune with chili daikon and ponzu sauce.

Remember when I said you better like seafood if you’re visiting Zuma? Well I may have forgotten to mention all the amazing dishes out there for my friends who prefer turf to surf. These Robata skewers with beef and shishito peppers we incredible. I am not a big beef eater but these were cooked to perfection and the flavor and spicy were incredible!

With out a doubt the best part of the meal was the Roasted Boston Lobster. I love lobster and was thoroughly impressed by how well this was prepared, a perfect balance of butter and lemon. We ended the meal with some dessert. Honestly you can’t go wrong with any of the dessert selections, I had the Buddha chocolate mouse cake served with mango sorbet. And Elissa got the fruit platter. After dinner we stopped at the bar for a cocktail. Our bartender Alejandro was fantastic, he was able to tell us so much about the different drinks on the menu, order the “Burning History” for a real show!

Ward 8

This weekend I got to check out Ward 8’s fabulous brunch menu! They have a little something for everyone from avocado toast to s’mores crepes! They also have my favorite, buckets of bubbles. For those of you that don’t know Boston, tragically, has laws against happy hours and bottomless drinks. It was put in place to try and reduce drunk driving, good intention, but it really puts a damper on things sometimes. Bucket of Bubbles is a great compromise! Buy a bottle Champagne and you get a variety of juices to make your own mimosas. They also have a great cocktail menu if you’re not into mimosas, I would recommend the Aperol Spritz or a Bloody Mar!

I can never decide between sweet and savory, so we decided to order a few things and share! To satisfy my sweet tooth we got the s’mores crepes. If you love chocolate this dish is for you! Covered in chocolate sauce and crumbled up graham crackers topped with mini marshmallows. It was so good. We also got a brunch classic, eggs Benedict, you can really never go wrong with eggs Benedict. Of course we had to get the avocado toast and the pork hash, both delicious. My favorite was probably the avocado toast, it was topped with poached eggs and spicy mayo, I love anything spicy!!

Ward 8 is located conveniently near the Haymarket T-stop. They have a great bar and plenty of seating if your planning on a group brunch. It has a really great vibe! Thank you so much to Ward 8 for hosting me, we had such a great time! As always all opinions are my own.

Romantic Valentines Day

V-Day is right around the corner and you are probably trying to figure out how to mark the occasion. Mike and I don’t do gifts, we both have way to much stuff (Marie Kondo we need you!!) and we would rather treat ourselves to a nice dinner or go do something fun together. This week I visited Assaggio’s in the North End and had the most delicious Italian food I have had in a very long time. There are so many options for Italian food in the North End but Assaggio’s really stood out to me. They recently renovated the interior of the restaurant, it is modern, chic, and cozy. The dinning room ambiance is perfect for a Valentines date. Upstairs they have a beautiful new lounge that offers a more casual vibe, perfect for a night out with your “galentines.” Assaggio’s offers old school class and service but with a modern menu.

We started with some cocktails and appetizers, I can never resist a burrata so we obviously ordered that! We got the charcuterie plate, my friend Maddie got an Italian classic a Negroni and I went with the house specialty mojito. The burrata was perfect, and I firmly believe a charcuterie plate is the perfect way to start an Italian feast! The staff was so lovely, our server made so amazing recommendations for the main course! I got the Veal Chop she recommended, it was stuffed with Parma prosciutto and Italian fontina, and I think it was my favorite thing ever! It can with a side of sweet potatoes slices lightly baked. Maddie went with my normal go-to the Gnocchi alla Sorrentina, they were little potato pillows of heaven. We decided to split the Grigliata, an amazing seafood plater that looked as good as it tasted! It consisted of grilled scallops, shrimp, calamari, swordfish, and a grilled lobster tail! If you love seafood you have to get the Grigliata! It is perfect for sharing on date night too!

We finished the night with a pair of espresso martinis, a tiramisu, and cannolis. It was all delicious and satisfied my sweet tooth! If you are looking for a beautiful restaurant, with amazing service and food for Valentines Day, Assaggio’s is the place to go! We had such an amazing meal, the next day I couldn’t wait to get home from work to have my left overs! Thank you so much to Assaggio’s for hosting us it was truly impeccable.

Brunch at Five Horses Tavern

Some people do yoga, meditate, and drink healthy smoothies as part of their self care routine. Me? I go to brunch! Last weekend I checked out Five Horses Tavern in Davis square with my friend, and one of my favorite food bloggers Joey of the_Roamingfoodie. The food was all amazing but I have to say my favorite part was the mimosa flight, why have one when you can have four? The apple cider mimosa will definitely be recreated at home!

For my main dish I had the Huevos Rancheros. I loved them! The were just spicy enough without it overwhelming the eggs. I also got an order of the Thyme Biscuit with honey butter, let’s just say honey butter is the only way to go! We also tried the Southern Comfort and the Fried Chicken and Waffles. Five Horses Tavern manages to combine brunch with comfort food, I can’t wait to go back! Be sure to check them out if you’re looking for brunch plans this weekend, make sure you make a reservation because they do get really busy on the weekends.

Portland Weekend Guide

Just a couple hours from Boston Portland Maine is the perfect weekend getaway. Mike and I headed up to Portland a couple weekends ago to celebrate a friend’s wedding. I love Portland, it has an amazing food scene and is so pretty in the fall! Our first day we strolled around Old Port and grabbed lunch at Central Provisions. We grabbed some seats at the bar, Central Provisions has a open kitchen, sitting at the bar allowed us to watch all the action. I got the corn bread and lobster fritters they were so good! CP uses fresh farm to table ingredients in a great atmosphere. Old port is so fun to stroll around, cobble stone streets, cute shops, and some amazing art galleries!

The wedding took place at the gorgeous Portland Audubon, the leaves were all starting to change and the weather was perfect. We had such a great time, the food at the wedding was incredible! We danced all night.

Before heading home the next day we stopped at Highroller Lobster and got something that had been on my food bucket list, the Lobster Cheese Crisp Taco! The taco shell is made from cheese and its filled with lobster, lettuce, avocado, and your choice of sauce. I got the jalapeno mayo. It was so good! There are tons of fun things to do in Portland. Check out one of the many micro-brewies, like Sebago Brewing Co, Shipyard Brewing, and Island Dog Brewing. You can take a harbor cruise, the mailboat run is really fun!

If you’re up for a little drive you can check out the Portland Headlight. It is so beautiful and a great way to end the weekend. Fall is the perfect time for a New England weekend getaway!
