Sea Shell by the Sea Shore

There is an Isak Dinesen quote that goes, “The cure for anything is salt water: sweat, tears, or the sea.”

There were definitely sweat and tears this week and I can’t wait to spend sometime by the sea. A short break by the beach is exactly what I need to unwind. If I had to pick a favorite thing about New England it would be all the small little beach towns you can escape to. My favorite has always been West Dennis; my family has been going there every summer since my grandfather was little. But there are also adorable towns up and down the coast. There is Rockport, Scituate, Newport, Bar Harbor, Camden, and so many more. What’s your favorite coastal escape?

This Lilly dress is one of my ‘holy-grails’, when it first came out I couldn’t afford it. Most of my Lilly dresses are actually bought second hand on apps like Poshmark. Last summer I finally scored this one for half its retail price on Posh!

Sailing Away in Summer

Happy First weekend of Summer! Memorial has come and gone so unofficially summer started last month, but today is the Summer Solstice. I am so happy to be partnering with vineyard vines to feature their summer line on my blog this summer. When I got the summer catalog in the mail I was instantly drawn to this sailboat intarsia sweater. It is the perfect sweater to toss on for a day by the water when its a little breezy or to put on after the sun goes down and it gets a little chilly. AC8CED67-97A4-4630-98F1-B7E86A58FE297A36883E-C4D3-4677-989D-7001CFAA742Ffullsizeoutput_2408BD0658DA-0931-4A5F-945C-5585C21B4FF97D03B3F2-EDD9-436C-B4D6-3866333BB635fullsizeoutput_2407

I love spending time by the ocean every summer. My family has been going down the Cape my entire life. Growing up in New England was amazing because we had so many different options. Vineyard Vines has always been one of my favorite brands because it captures the essence of New England perfectly. The winters here may be horrible but I firmly believe the summers make it worth it. Can’t wait to go to Nantucket, the Cape, and Maine this summer!

Public Gardens Picnic

I love living right down the street from the Boston Public Gardens. They are so beautiful, the swan boats, the ducklings, and all the flowers, it is perfection. Continuing with the gingham theme this summer I got this great skirt from J. Crew Factory, not only does it have a fabulous bow but it has pockets!!!! Men will never understand the struggle of not having pockets. I paired it with a navy crewneck sweater from J.Crew and my Jacks. My friend and I hung out in the gardens, relaxed on the grass watched all the swan boats go back and enjoyed some Welch’s non-alcoholic Rose. I adore rose but if you’re looking to enjoy something light and fruity without getting a buzz this is perfect for you!

I am in love with this necklace and earrings set from Peachy Pendants and adorable Etsy shop. The owner Jen is so kind and helpful! I was really happy with the quality of the set. So many companies charge so much for monogrammed accessories, Peachy Pendants is affordable! If you are looking to get brides maids gifts this is the perfect brand for inexpensive, quality accessories.

Anchored into Summer

As many of you know I graduated college this year, and recently started a new job. I love it but it keeps me super busy, even on the weekends. I am definitely looking forward to spending time down the Cape with my family and up in Maine with Mike.

That is what I love about New England, we really have everything right here within driving distance. We can drive to the beach, the mountains, lakes, and the woods. I grew up going down the Cape and am definitely a beach person! When I was seven my family went on a seriously disastrous camping trip to Maine, which pretty much turned me off of Maine until I started dating Mike. The past four years I have loved going up to Maine with him, its nice to get away just the two of us. There is no wifi, and only 4 TV channels, so its very easy to unplug and relax for a weekend.

I am looking forward to traveling a lot this summer and now that the weather is finally starting to feel like summer there are plenty of beach days in my future! This dress is from vineyard vines, I think I got it in 2014 maybe? I love the nautical anchor details and the rope belt! It is the perfect summer dress, the collar keeps it professional enough to wear to the office but it’s still fun enough for a night out! I am always looking for nautical pieces to add to my wardrobe and I go back to them every summer. I talk about quality over quantity a lot. This dress is four years old and is still in great condition! Yes it cost $100+ initially but I am still wearing it four years later! You can spend $15 on a dress at Primark but it will be ruined after one or two wears and you will be going right back to the store to spend another $15 dollars and another and another. There are so many quality brands out there, building a wardrobe doesn’t happen over night and investing in quality pieces is the best way to build a long term wardrobe.

Red, White, and Nautical

Happy Memorial Day Weekend everyone! MDW has always marked the start of summer. It is surprisingly one of the few holidays I don’t have a standing tradition for, weather in New England can be so unpredictable that it never makes sense to plan a beach weekend to far in advance. This year I’ll be keeping things low key and just hanging around Boston for the weekend spending time with family and friends. Memorial Day is great for a lot of things, trips to the beach, cookouts, big sales. But lets not forget what this holiday is all about; celebrating the men and women who have died fighting for our country. Thank you to our service men and women and their families.

Last week I attended a Lilly Pulitzer summer kick-off party. The view was gorgeous and the Lilly party was so much fun! This is one of my favorite Lilly dresses I bought at the end of last summer. I love the starfish print and the colors. Very appropriate for Memorial Day Weekend. I hope you all have a great long weekend! Its going to be rainy across New England but I know that won’t stop you all from having a good time! What are everyone’s plans?
