The headlines might be filled with major retailers declaring bankruptcy, but it is the small, locally owned businesses that have truly been hit hard by the pandemic. This year I am committed to supporting as many small and women owned businesses as possible. If you are looking for a unique quality gift these businesses are definitely worth a look. Here are the places I recommend checking out on Small Business Saturday.
Place and Gather – Charlestown
Located along the Freedom Trail at 26 Common Street, Charlestown this adorable shop will have great gifts for your mom, sister, or roommate! The owner Amanda is so sweet, she recently had her first baby, Maya who is absolutely adorable. In addition to owning Place and Gather Amanda also owns Junebug Charlestown; the cutest flower shop you’ve ever seen! Follow them on Instagram, and you can also place orders online.
Haus Witch – Salem
If you feel like you need to clear out all the bad 2020 energy, head to Haus Witch. Get some cleansing crystals, a smudge stick, and candles that smell divine. They take orders online and ship world wide, so even if you can’t make it to Salem, you can support this women owned business. Haus Witch has also had tons of virtual events this year, stay up to date with all the happenings on their Instagram.
For Now – Seaport
A small – women owned business committed to supporting other small women owned businesses, what’s not to love? For Now is located in the Boston Seaport, and they open seasonally on Nantucket. Every time I am in this store I discover a new brand and I fall in love. The owners Kaity and Katharine have also launched an incubator to help emerging female entrepreneurs get started. One of my favorite quarantine pastimes, cross stitching, was discovered at For Now, The Stranded Stitch. From cozy blankets and scarfs to candles and body butter For Now has it all. Place your order online and check out their Instagram for the latest featured brands.
The Golden Cod
Founded by fellow New England base blogger Robbin Mangano, The Golden Cod embodies coastal New England heritage. Robbin and her husband Jeff recently launched The Golden Cod and it has been an instant success. Shop cozy sweatshirts, beautiful necklaces, and of course a Gold Cod to go over your door. Check out their Instagram and place an order online, this weekend they’re offering 15% off for Small Business Saturday.
SeaCraft Vintage- Kennebunkport
If you’re in the Maine area you have to check out this newly launched shop by Jackie Greaney and her fiancĂ© Paul. Seacraft Vintage is filled with treasure from all over New England. You can find vintage art work, antiques, New England themed decor, and so much more. They’re constantly posting new arrivals on their Instagram and a small selection of items are available online for purchase.
Lifeguard Chair 7 Designs
Well if you haven’t heard by now, I too am a small business owner! This year I launched my very own shop, Lifeguard Chair 7 Designs. I make adorable trinket and ring dishes out of oyster and clam shells. I am so grateful for all the outpour of support I have received since launching. If you are looking for a small gift these are perfect! Follow on Instagram to see all the available patterns and to place an order.
